Hi Tim,
That sounds similar to my first bad fuel pump(I've had two replaced). There was one common and distinct characteristic of both failures though...the car would not accelerate past 5-6K on 1/4 tank or less. It would just quit till I let off the gas then it would charge up to 5K again and repeat. On a full tank the symptoms were not noticeable.
If you haven't seen the photos of the returnless pump(what you and I have)and the in tank filters that may be contributing or causing your troubles, here ya go...
Returnless Fuel Pump Exposed! I had to trim the sheetmetal under the rear seat to do this, you have to drop the tank otherwise.
