Some woman in WashDC lost control of her Segway and launched it clear off the subway platform. She sat down and let go of the handlebars without turning it off, and zooom! This was right around when she was setting up to take legal action to force the Metro police to allow her to use it unimpeded on the subway (they contended it wasn't adequately controllable for its size and potential velocity).
