Ok the other day I desided to take off my door panel just to see what it is going to be like to instal new speakers, but to my supprise the previous owner had put in Inifinty Reference speakers. But still when i turn it up they get distorted. So what I was wondering because an amp is out of my price range right now is that im gona go with bass blockers.
What I was wondering was what i would want Hz cut off I would want them at. I have two 12" compVr's so i dont need any more bass, and I like many like my music loud.

What is your low pass filter set as for your subs? I think many people here set a high pass filter to 80-100Hz.

did you bypass your factory amp? that can cause some distortion. i think cutting it off around 80 to 100 hz seems alright.
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.
now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

I don't have the premium sound package so I don't have a factory amp

That doesn't matter. You might have it or not. Just drop the glovebox and look behind it (takes all of 2 seconds).
Some bass blockers will improve the sound either way. I'd cut them around 75Hz.

How many screws or bolts are holding up the factory amp, because I went to look for it and all I found was a metal plate with three holes in it for screws or whatever and a large square in the middle. Also I found conecter that was all cut up and had different speaker wire hooked up to it. Could this be from the previous owner taking out the factory amp?

There are 3 screws that hold the factory amp. Could this "large square" you're describing be the amp? It's around 8" by 10" and has metal fins on one side.

I don't know much about car audio but I somehow doubt he has a factory amp. It probably came with a cheesy cassette player like mine did.

What I meant by a large square, well its not very lager, but its a square hole in that braket with the three screw holes. There is nothing that fits your discription of the factory amp. Would this bracket even be there if it never came with a amp? Also the harnes I talked about thats all cut up is all electrical taped together.
I think the previous owner didnt know much about stereo stuff, his old remote wire that he left in the car was speaker wire. Also he left his controler modual thing behind the dash for his cd changer. Just thought I would throw that in.

sounds to me like he took the factory amp out. using speaker wire as remote wire isn't bad, as our favorite monkey says, copper is copper. why dont you pick up some bass blockers, they are cheap enough - see if they solve your problem.
