My brother, who is rebuilding a '64 Mustang, advised the best thing is a true dual exhaust and headers and a superchip really wouldn't do much good without headers and dual exhaust. His advice was to drop a Taurus V8 into it! Would it even fit?! 
One other question I have is that according to the Ford Website, all '98 Contour Sports with the Duratec V6 came with 4-wheel disc brakes, yet mine only has front discs. Does this mean also, then, that it only has front ABS?
Welcome aboard. There is a company that can beef-up your auto but be prepared to pay a beefed-up price. A V8 will not fit without a lot of modifying, added weight and much $. I cannot answer your brakes question. You might try looking at the FAQ section on the main page.
