I notice you have a heat shield (home made to boot!!!). Is this application susceptible to severe heat soak? I would assume with the open element you are going to get more heat from the engine, but I live in CA and it does not get all that hot, although I do raod trip a bit and do find myself in different climates (plus I may be moving to KS at some point).
The short of it would be: is the heat shield a must in a warm (but not hot) climates, and will the heat soak potentially negate the benefits of the filter?
