Thanks for all your help guys.

I just ordered the Bat Aluminum MAF adaptor and their gasket.

I'm dropping $34 shipped for the K&N and ~$50 for the MAF parts from BAT ($39 for adapter + $5 for gasket + S&H).

I can't justify the $$$ for the heatshield, so when I get everything next week it's off to Home Depot for heatshield parts and a new snorkel...

Demon I noticed you used a plastic trashcan, how did it work out?

Thanks...

Second opinion about the Duratecperformance.com MAF adapter here. I've recently put one in mine and noticed something not mentioned; that the MAF adapter has convexed sealing surface when looking from the gasket side.

To me this is smart engineering on their part. The piece is composite so when it's bolted up to cast metal MAT manifold, it will conform to the straight seal surface of the metal piece. With the clamping bolts at the four corners, this will ensure that the sealing pressure is evenly distributed on the seal surface.

Does this make sense or am I on the fringe of sensibility/rationality/..,

bkent,

How did this work out for you? I've been looking at droping in a new filter and have been reading good things about the 3530 and just wanted to see how yours worked out for you.

Anyone else with this setup is welcome to respond as well, Thanks!

Ditto, seems to be just the right size for the application.

Whats the deal with the DuratecPerformance 70/75mm MAF adapter? I heard that SmellySVT was able to use that just fine on his 3530 set up?

Is it better to get the DP 80/90mm MAF adapter becuase it fits better?

The only thing I can guess is that the 3530 filter possibly fits outside of the flange of the 70/75mm adapter whereas it fits inside the flange on the 80/85mm adapter? Is this the case?

If so, will I see a performance loss with the DP 70/75mm adapter (with the 3530 filter), or just fitment issues? The reason I ask is because DP told me in an email that the 70/75mm adapter with the 3530 filter is the right set up for the SVT.

I just received my DP 70/75mm MAF adapter and my 3530 filter is in the mail, so I'd like to make sure I got the correct adapter.

Also, for anyone interested...DP now sells the 70/75mm adapter with a gasket to fix any possible sealing issues.

I notice you have a heat shield (home made to boot!!!). Is this application susceptible to severe heat soak? I would assume with the open element you are going to get more heat from the engine, but I live in CA and it does not get all that hot, although I do raod trip a bit and do find myself in different climates (plus I may be moving to KS at some point).
The short of it would be: is the heat shield a must in a warm (but not hot) climates, and will the heat soak potentially negate the benefits of the filter?

Thanks.

Also depending on the adapter you get you will not want to run the Smaller screen anyway!

Can we quantitatively define MAF re-orientation?

Does that mean let the PCM sort it out with a couple of days of driving?

If I did the 3530 I would be using the stock MAF and just wanted to know what I am up against.
What is the added advantage of not having the screen, more air would be my first thought, but it has been proven on more than one occasion that my first though is not always the bestâ?¦. Any other benefits/negatives?
Thanks again!

I'd say yes and yes. I'm also in SoCal and without the heatshield, I would get a ton of heatsoak in traffic. The stock intake gets cooler air, but is restrictive. With an open-air filter there is no restriction, but you're sucking in hot air. Why not get the best of both worlds and use an open-air filter and use a heatshield to suck in cool air. Make sense to me . Installing a tube through the fenderwell to the air dam area to get cold air to the filter also helps.

I have the same questions...I thought you could just reset thee computer (via fuses or battery) and just drive to re-adjust to the new filter and be on your merry way...

I also thought I remember hearing that the stock screen doesn't do much...but maybe I was wrong...I'll go do some SEARCHIN' and see what I can dig up.
