Straight from the manufacturer (sorry it took so long...):
The units will be a 100% replacement. The top layer will have a gel/clear coat finish to give it the nice shiny looking, 3-D effect. Were going to be using a 2X2 weave which is a smaller strand CF, but most CF parts you see everywhere use a 2X2 strand weave. With all the resin coatings the unit should be able to take several hundred degrees of radiant heat from the engine and headers without any issues.
