It's also smart to remember that driving is not a right, it's a priveledge. So they can make up pretty much any law within reason that they choose. BTW, seatbelts are not a "cash grab" (whatever that means), they are there to save lives, you might want to try one on sometime if you would like to live.

yeah it sucks that people are dumb enough to NOT wear seat belts. i actually think i'd enjoy it if someone flew out of their windshield onto the street after an accident instead of being contained within the vehicle (dead or alive). because that is better.

it also sucks that i can now, after a non-smoking law in bar and restaurants, enjoy my $100 dinner and wine without coming out of a restaurant smelling like the ass end of an ashtray. i'd much rather come home from a club or bar with my eyes irritated and my throat closed up from sucking down someone else's cigarette smoke.

W3rd.

I personally can't stand smoke. It irritates the living hell out of me, and I don't even know why they exist. The so called "cash grab" in this situation is that tobacco companies are getting money to watch you die. Wow...what a thoughtful idea.

And I s'pose that seatbelts are in every vehicle built today so the government/police can make money off of it's pointless usage? What about airbags? Should there be a little button on the dash that says "Only push this button if you want your airbags to save your face from being horribly distorted and imprinted on the steering wheel in an accident".

Don't even get me started on cell phone drivers...

I like to fart around smokers. I know they don't mind the smell.

[censored]. It is a right. People are born with the right to transport themselves. Years ago I could ride a horse to get where I wanted to go. Years ago I could ride a wagon to get where I wanted to go. I have the right to ride a train. Should I be able to safely fly (and afford) a plane, I have the right to do so. Just because it is regulated does not make it a privilege. I may only be able to say certain things via the First Amendment; but it is still my right as being born human to be able to say things.

Ah the kid who started this post is full of it...

All the STi's that are coming in are special ordered/ people on a waiting list to get the cars.

So I highly doubt that a dealership let him take one out - they won't even let serious buyers test drive one.

Also think of this - whomever ordered that car - or was on the waiting list for it - probably isn't going to be happy about someone driving it - if his story is true

Yep, it's called legs. Anything you said after that is worthless. There are no "rights" handed down in the Constitution that says "Owning and operating a mode of transportation is within your rights." It's a privilege. You earn it, by training and testing. If you fail, you don't get to drive, for obvious reasons. There are laws governing driving for this very reason.

That aside, I disagree with enforcing the law of "click-it-or-ticket," because despite the obvious safety of wearing a seatbelt, unlike second-hand smoke, it generally (note- I said GENERALLY, this is not empirical by any stretch)does not affect anyone else. If someone dies due to their choice of not using a seatbelt, it was their fault- even if they were not at-fault in the accident.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.
