yeah i don't think they protect people at all (from their own stupid selves).. and i don't think no-smoking laws protect my rights when i eat or walk in the mall. cash grab of like $15 here for seat belt violation. yeah wow. they'll be rich in no time when they could be getting speeder or confiscating property from drug dealers.

seatbelt laws bug me - who the hell is the gov't, my mom, telling me to buckle up or i'll get hurt? but on the other hand, i sure as hell dont want to pay the taxes to pay the life support for some vegetable who didnt buckle up and is just gonna drain the economy for the next 60 years of his life... sorta give and take i guess.
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.

well up here allowing your clients to smoke inside will result in very heavy fines and can even result in the forced closure of your business I believe, also the seatbelt fines up here are considerably more than they are in your part of the world. I believe that the government has no right whatsoever telling me how to run my business, if your a non smoker and you come to my business and the smoking bothers you go elsewhere I wont miss your business.

I can smoke in a bar here (well technically I can't being 17 but technically i can't be in a bar either, but that's just technical crap, so it seems if your business has the proper ventalation and a room for non-smoker/smokers than smoking should be allowed. They can't ban people from smoking everywhere just from places where people have a choice whether or not to be around your smoke.

The seat belt issues does not stop at the non wearer. Insurance premiums - for everyone- are in part based upon the costs incurred by insurance companies to pay for treatment of accident victems. It stands to reason that if in an accident w/o a seatbelt and you sustain injuries, those injuries are likely to be more extensive than the seatbelt wearer. Here's the c o m p l i c a t e d part, the cost of treatment is directly proprtional to the extent of the injuries.
It's simple, wear a seatbelt. If not for MY insurance premiums, then for your family and friends.

yeah it sucks that people are dumb enough to NOT wear seat belts. i actually think i'd enjoy it if someone flew out of their windshield onto the street after an accident instead of being contained within the vehicle (dead or alive). because that is better.
it also sucks that i can now, after a non-smoking law in bar and restaurants, enjoy my $100 dinner and wine without coming out of a restaurant smelling like the ass end of an ashtray. i'd much rather come home from a club or bar with my eyes irritated and my throat closed up from sucking down someone else's cigarette smoke.
