I've made 'in house' hoses for the SHO for nearly ten years and while they are not DOT approved have had maybe three problems with about 250 sets I made. DOT approved hoses are not (to my knowlege) required on cars and certainly not on racing brake systems. They do make a case for brainless installations and such with the rules they apply to them, but we in the biz certainly would hope that those doing the installs would have a few more cells than the average bloke. Then again...I've had my share of questions like "which end of the caliper goes up" so....
