So the other day prior to my big trip I'm starting my car and my battery is not responding like it should. It would have been 2 years old in September so off to Canadian Tire I went with my receipt. Luckily the battery was bad - not my alternator(those types of things tend to deplete your vacation fund very quickly). So a I got a brand new battery for free, I hooked it up and all was well again. NOW MY DAMN DASH LIGHTS DON'T WORK!!!???? I looked at the #31 fuse under the dash(I think that's what number it was). It's a 7.5 red and it looks fine.
Could I have shorted something out when hooking up the battery? Everything else works just fine. Is there another fuse I don't know about?
Thanks for taking the time.
Rob

When my speedometer and fuel gauge started acting up (as in, not doing anything), I got frustrated and gave my dash a good whack. Now they work fine. No, I am no the Fonz. cool

Check all the fuses under the dash. I had a similar problem and it was the fuse for the dome light that was bad...IIRC.

I just finished checking all the fuses and there does not seem to be any bad ones. I even swapped the fuse that should be burnt out for another one and still no lights.
Any idea what the heck is going on here? I think I shorted something when I put my new battery in.

Did you check the underhood fuses too?

My dimmer is fried. My dash lights only come on when the dimmer is all the way on.

Hi,
I don't think it's the dimmer. It does not matter where the dimmer is postioned the dash lights will not work. All the fuses under the dash are good-to-go. Which fuse should I be checking under the hood? Keep in mind that the ONLY thing that is not working are the dash lights and it started right after I installed a new battery. If I did blow a fuse under the hood you would think there would be other problems as well(but I'm not the pro).

Please help,
Rob

Why not the dimmer, it could be an open circuit so no current passes, regardless of the position of the dimmer dial. (Wow, what a long sentance!)
