Car's are put in the game based upon Company Sponsorship. Manufacturers pay X amount of dollars to get their car's in these games, because to them, it's advertisement. Hundreds of Millions of car fan's driving these cars all around the world. The "classic" cars where done for pure nostalgic reasons.
It's all about money, X amount buys you X amount of cars. Hence why these car's don't show damage when you smash into a wall.. What kind of advertisement is it for Audi when you see an S4 with a hood through the windshield.
Cougar and Mondeo were axed because Ford didn't see fit to include them. They included their "big sellers".. the Focus, Taurus, Mustang.. the top sellers and that's it.. especially with plans to cancel certain models.. last thing Ford is going to do is through a cancelled car in the list (ie: Cougar)
