I forgot to do a visual underhood inspection until the DAY BEFORE I was to make a 1200 mile move from TX to PA, driving the car myself (What can I say? Moving screws everything up). Checking the belt, what do I see? Many, many itty-bitty cracks with daylight shining through.
Had the dealer do it -- $108, in and out in 50 minutes.
ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT DOLLARS FOR A BELT!!!???
Let's review:
$108 for the part, labor, and requiring only 50 minutes of my time the day before I was scheduled to leave Dallas.
Apparently, you've never experienced the joy of lining-up an interstate move and the process of working with the movers who do the job. Everything's on a timetable.
At T-Minus 1 day and with most of my stuff already on its way to PA in the moving van, $108 to R&R a serpentine belt that was on its last legs and looking like it could have snapped while en route to PA was a bargain.
There's price, and then there's value.
