Wondering what it looks like. Does anyone have a picture? Of this either on a 'stique or a 'tour? Considering doing this, but i'd really like to see what it looks like first.

I did this mod to my car and love the extra light I get in the back seat area. Very easy to do and the part only costs about $20 new. I'll try to snap some pics for you and post them later today.

Here's a pic for ya:

How-to in the Mod Section is accurate and overall it is not too hard to do this mod. The light fits directly into the headliner frame so all you have to do is cut out the rectangle with an X-Acto knife, run the wiring to the front light and you're done. Good luck!

You can get one at any Ford Dealer. I got mine through Bill Jenkins at Sentry Ford, but now he's in Nevada I believe. Check out the Parts Section for more info on that. As far as the part # goes, it's F5RY-13776-A (Lamp Assy) $20. I got another one at a junk yard for $5 for my wife's car.

this is one of my favorite mods/recontents (sorta a recontent). my rear passengers love it AND its great for nite time IF u have tint and get pulled over. turn on interior lights which will brighten up the rear and reduce chance of ticket for dark tint. cop will be able to see into rear. so he doesn't think someone's back there w/ a gun or something

If you get it from the junk yard, you could also cut out the section of headliner around it so that you can use it as a guide for cutting into your headliner. It makes the operation a lot less scary. I'm must say that I do love this mod. It's easy, cheap and needed. stan

Looks sweet guys. Is it still possible to do if i have a moonroof? Will i just need like another foot or so of wire to go around it? Also, where are the controls for it? Is it on the light itself, can you control it from the front? both?

If you have a moonroof then the mod is easier because you can run it along side the moonroof and not have to struggle as much getting the wiring from the back to the front. As far as the light itself goes, it does have an "on/off" switch which can be set to turn on when you open your doors. However, you can't control it from the front lamp. There is a wiring harness that they make for this mod which I believe costs around $20 and may make your life easier. I just used two lengths of wire, taped them together and ran them to the front lamp. Good luck!

With a moonroof, you can thread the wiring easily by pulling the plastic strip around the moonroof opening, and dropping the headliner enough to reach up there (after pulling the two plastic buttons that secure the back of the headliner where the light will go). Be sure to check back there to assure that your car has the metal frame that the light snaps into; some members have said their cars did not have the frame (although my late (2000) car did). Also remember to thread the wires UNDER the metal frame in the back, and then to the light; otherwise the wires will be in the wrong place when you try to snap in the light (once you look at it, you'll understand). Finally, the wires connect to the front dome light, which drops down by wiggling a small screwdriver into the space between the light and the larger housing (don't try to lower the whole thing). As others have said, the scariest part is taking the utility knife to the headliner...just push it up against the metal bracket, feel for where the opening is, and make a small cut first!
