Quote from local Ford Dealer;
"Spraying any cleaner down the TB will do more harm than good! It will cause the linkages to become sticky and may produce CEL. We do not clean them here, we just replace the TB completely!"
This was in response to my question that I asked them about cleaning the TB! After Mr Lube was going to do the "complete" fuel system cleaning and I noticed the warning on the TB warning against spraying cleaner into it!
Stephen[/b]You've got to be kidding me. If you're using a cleaner that contains sulfuric acid, I can see their point. Otherwise, Ford needs to sic their attournies on STP, Castrol and everyone else that makes carb/TB cleaner.
Ask the idiot if Ford recommends replacing windshields when they get bug-spattered instead of cleaning them...
TB cleaner shouldn't cause you any problems whatsoever. I've used it on a number of cars ('82 Chevy, '89 SHO, '93 SHO, '99 Contour SVT '00 Vette) with no ill effects at all. Many folks on this Board have cleaned TB's as well as upper and lower intakes and have reported excellent results.
