I have a 98 V6 MTX (great car, except . . .)

I've been struggling with this problem since the winter. Everytime the ABS kicks in for more than a few seconds, the #3 fuse blows (controls the blower fan switch as well) and the ABS light comes on. If the fuse is replaced (I've gotten very good at doing this) then the code clears itself and the light goes out. I've had it at two different dealers to no avail. The last time the dealer said there is a service bulletin to up the fuse from 60A to 80A.(which he did for $100!)

Now when I stomp the brakes (on gravel) the ABS works for a few seconds then quits and the light comes on. However, with the 80A, the fuse no longer blows. Turn the car off and on again - the ABS light is no longer on.

Apparently I'm getting a 1095 code when the light is on but that didn't seem to mean anything to the mechanic. I've taken it to two dealers and been less than satisfied. (I paid one of them $500 to find a loose fuse - another sad story)

I am sure I do not have the only Tour in North America with this problem. Anybody out there who can shed some light on this?

This is pretty scary...I had the EXACT same problem with my 'Tour as well. Blew #3 fuse, changed from 60A to 80A (which Ford should have done when they manufactured the car), and when it did that again, they replaced the ABS module.

Sorry to tell you this, but this is definitely your ABS module that's toast. It's not a cheap part either. frown

Thanks, I know it's expensive but the second dealer will put in a used one for me. Iw as hopeing for a wheel sensor but with my ususal luck it always turns out to be the more expensive option.

i would just go withput the abs and leave it as is if you had to replace the mod. Speed sensors aren't to costly - would replace that.
