how do I get to the sparkplugs in my 1995 ford contour se?

is it just a matter of taking off the top like it looks or am i going to run into problems as soon as I start?

You don't need to take off the upper intake manifold.

Check here for the How-To on replacing spark plugs.

You do not need to remove the coil pack or disconnect the wires from the coil. I removed the IMRC only.

There is an excellent post (w/pics) that shows exactly how to do your plugs. All you need is 3/8 drive ratchet, a long (I used a 10") extension, a plug socket and a little duct tape. Tape the socket to the extension. Gap all the plugs before you start, its a 15 minute job.

Search around a little youll find the post I'm refering to.

They fit the standard, late model 5/8" sparkplug socket. The 2 most difficult parts of changing the plugs were: 1) getting the plug connectors (at least on the stock wires) past the UIM, ya gotta rotate them until the 4 centering ears on the body of the connector are oriented 45 deg to the C/L of the engine to slip them past the UIM, and 2) you're working blind on the firewall side of the engine so you need to feel your way into the plug wells. The front plugs are a breeze. I didn't remove the coil pack either.

Try it with the coil pack in place, but I had to move it. I just couldn't get my hand in there to remove the boots and get any kind of leverage on it without moving it out of the way. If you do have to remove the pack, it's not a big deal.

How tall are you guys ??

I've seen so many posts from people that say they can't see/reach/feel/find the rear plugs.

I'm 6'3" and I'm able to see down the plug well, even the rear one close to the center of the car. I was able to take a good look at the piston heads when I last had the plugs out.

I'm 6'2" and I can't see the back ones without using a mirror below the windshield cowl and a bright light. The front edge of the windshield cowl blocks my view from above.

Do you gots eyes whut extends out on stalks???
