Maybe, just maybe it's the same thing that happened to me. There is a kind of rubber boot where the steering column goes through the floor. If that becomes loose it's amazing how much cluncking it can do. I cocked and taped mine back into place. By the way, you have to pull the carpet up in the front to see the boot. It's not hard.
