I have a 2002 3 liter, Did Ford ever get around to using real water pumps or do I need to change that as well?

IIRC it uses the same white plastic (upgraded) impeller as the newer 2.5L's do.
It has a longer life, but is still susceptible to the same type of failure.

Sure, it's the same pump. I don't know that I'd bother if you've got a low-mileage 3L though. I put the 2001 impeller in my 95 pump because the tensioner was snapped off the 2001.

I was just thinking that then I dont have to replace it later. When I stick this motor in I HAVE to keep the car( my wife) I just did not want to do later.
