Hello All,

Just wanting some advice on how difficult it is to change the timing belt on a 95 2.0l Zetech.

Thanks

if you feel you are a compitend shade tree mechanic you shouldn' thave to much trouble with changing the timing belt. YOu need to support the engine and remove one engine mount. My father and I did it ourselves on my car and it took us 4 hours, but we took our time and made sure everything was done right. The Ford service manual for the car tells you everything you need to know. make sure you read up first and then deside if you want to do it or not

Welcome onboard.

Just to ensure you know; there is a visible serpentine belt and a hidden timing belt on your Zetec engine. Prior post refers to the latter.

One other thing: If you decide to replace the timing belt, consider replacing the water pump as well. Most of what you have to remove and work through to get to the timing belt is what you have to get through to replace the water pump.

With a high mileage vehicle, it's probably a good idea to do both the belt and the pump, particularly if you have a mechanic do it. I just had the belt replaced on my 97 Mystique 2.0 and at the mechanic's suggestion had him replace the water pump as well. Labor total was over $300 but only $50 was for the water pump, since all the "get at the pump" labor was already done.
