Has anyone used a reverse cone filter (K&n-style cone with the open end) in the stock SVT air filter housing? I would like to keep the stock look of the engine bay and get a smidge more throttle response. Any opinions wlecome.

What i noticed when i put the K&N wioth the stock air box, was better gas millage (slightly) and not really any noticable power....The air box is really restrictive, i know you want to keep it stock but sometimes stock and power don;t go hand in hand.
If you want to keep it stock, go with the K&N drop in, but be carful with reverse filters, im not sure about k#n, but i knw KKM has problems imploding...(you may not have the problem with the stock airbox). But if eventually your goign to go performance, i reconmend getting a MAF adapter and creating an open filter eliment, removing the stock air box.
With the open filter, you should see and maybe feel the throttle response.

I was thinking of the open end one purely because with the way the SVT air box is set up, I think it makes sense. You have the end of the airbox going into the fender, why use a filter with a closed off end right there? It wouldn't flow as much as an open filter, but there would be little to no heat-sink problem, and it would still be better than stock. And it would be hidden and protected from the elements, or any animals (see an earlier post of mine) that like to make houses in engine compartments

Who buddie, i don;t know why your getting mad but you need to chil...i was merly giving you advise.....and yes you are correct, airflow with the stock air box does go throgh the tube, but if you look at the part of the tube thats in the fender, you will realize how resticve it is, and because the airbox draws air throught that little hole as well, it is also resticted to the amount of air it can process so your not using the filters whole surface area to your advantage. Thats why the best route is to remove the "plastic tube" in the fender wall, put an open air filter eliment, and custom build, or buy a Detec Heat sheild, and then find a way or use tubes to route cooler outside air to your filter. But like you said you wanted to keep it stock, so i gave mild suggestions.
A open air filter w/a custom heat sheild will always beat the stock air box....DemonSVT cna give you numbers becaus he has them.
Weahter your frustrated with my suggestions or pissed at me (which you sdhouldn;t be because i wasn;t rude) I don;t know, but you don;t have to do anything i suggest. Im only reconmending something that has been proven to give more HP and throttle respons which you said you were looking for.

Yeah, I am not mad at you. I am mad at the wee critter who chewed up half of my engine bay. I'm sure you will agree, I am justified in being mad at whatever it was.
I apologise if you misread what I was mad at, but I thought it was pretty clear. Besides, what did you say that I would get mad at?

Roz......I think the angry face was in refernce to "animals that make their homes in engtine compartments"...not towards you. Unless you make your home in engine compartments...

Inverse cone filters are junk.
Why don't you just buy the K&N drop in filter!
It's a K&N that "drops right in"!!!
Either way you are still sucking through the proverbial straw due to the tiny inlet hole in the stock SVT airbox.
