yup its the belt getting wet and slipping...i haven't driven this car through an awful lot of water but its never slipped like that....my gti used to do it something terrible...once the thing completely died on me going through an intersection near the beach where the streets would ofter have flowing water...only car i ever had that did that and it sucked
