Im still lost as to what the shift tower is exactly. This post makes it sound like it is the shift cable itself. Ive also heard it is actually on the tranny, my idea of a shift tower is what my shifter sits in. I just ordered a new shift linkage from Ford with my "Im not an employee but I get employee discount" deal, and it looks about the same, but the bushing that connects to the shifter itself actually has a small push pin style thing that looks like it will lock the ball in and push the ball out a lot easier. Maybe Im wrong and that isn't what it is for, but my stock 00' bushing is just a straight through design where I can feel the ball on the left side when I put it in. The new one has a button there

The shift tower is everything in your questions.....For me its a little difficult to explain....It does attach to your transmission, and included is the cables....theres someone on here with a picture of it....the [censored] tower includeds the larger shifter cables and cable ends, to prevent them from breaking....thats the only way i cna describe it. If any one has a pic please post.

Yes definitely post some pics. I keep seeing the 2000+ shift tower and the focus shift tower. Are the similar, same, totally different? I have a 2000 so I'm guessing it has to be a little bit better but is the focus shift tower really that much better? I mean Ive had 2 tranny rebuilds, this one having a Quaife installed, but don't think it had anything to do with the shift tower being weak.

Oh no no no, the shifter tower only has to do with the linkage problem...which is what this person who posted this thread has....its nothing majory like a rebuild. It only fixes the problem the thin cables, the weak ball links anf connectors. And the Shifter tower is stronger and reenforced.

Thats all it has to do with.....it has nothing to do (that i know of) with actually transmission integrity. Its just something to put in that you know won;t break (or worn;t break any where as easy) when your shifting hard and fast.

The reason you have to switch out the who shift tower assemble and not the cables, is beacuse the new cables are thicker and won;t fit in the non-focus shifter tower.
