I'm going on the big honeymoon at the end of the month, round abouts a 3500K trip, and I'm wondering if I should bother changing the waterpump-I've never had any problems with it,car only has 135K and runs excellent. Should I bother and gamble or play it safe??

I would replace it if I were you. Mine blew at 115,000 KM without warning. No previous problems, no gradual increase in running temp. Just blew one day on the 401 while heading home from work.

I would be on the safe side. I have a 99 Contour SE Sport. It only has 21,000 miles on it (dont' drive much), and I think I am gonna get it changed for a metal one at 30,000 miles just to be safe. I have to have transmision pan change and some other stuff so I will have them do it while the car is in for service. Does anybody think I should wait? I would definately change at over 100K miles from what I have heard.

As I posted before, I think it should be a regular maintenance item to be replaced at around a 40K mile service. This is because some people have had them go at around 35K miles although most last longer so I just split the difference and say 40K. I would replace it with a Ford unit instead of just the impeller part in case the cone is loose. For most people that's a pump every three or four years so that shouldn't be too harsh on the budget.

Given the expense ($50) and the peace of mind that it will give you, I would say do it. I can't image being on a honeymoon with my new wife and having to worry if the whole trip is going to be ruined by a stupid $50 pump. He's my advice:
Visit NAPA and get the pump and belt. Visit Ford and get the tensioner. Spend 2 hours on it on Sunday morning Enjoy a worry-free trip with your new wife.
The process took me about an hour to do, if you are inexperienced at these sorts of things, I would allow yourself 2 hours.
Good Luck!
