Just curious peeps. I was gonna' post a poll but it's too early and I'm lazy. I have read a lot of posts about removing the resonator, until recently. Nobody seems to talk about it anymore. But there seems to be some disagreement of whether it is worth it or not. Some say it sounds too raspy. Some say it sounds good and gives a little extra umph. Chime in and give your two cents. And if anyone has any sound-bytes of an E1 w/o the resonator I would love to hear it.

Replace the resonator with a glasspack...I ran mine like that for two years with a great sound and no problems. Without SOMETHING in there it is very raspy. The only reason I'm not running the glasspack anymore is because I got a Borla catback, which actually sounds very similar.

How much did you pay for your glasspack? Still have it?

Remove the 2 mufflers and replace the resonator with one muffler...the main reason rasp hapens is because of the sesoation in the piping to the mufflers...by putting hte mufler closer to the main cat, (eliminating the resonator) it should eliminate most of the rasp....by shortening the exiting pipes you almost elimitaed all together....its what i ahve come to find out experamenting on my freinds contour....but just because it works on his doesn;t mena it will work for you. Bu its something to consider if you want more sound with less rasp

Go for the Magnaflow. Nice deep rumble when you're getting on it and it goes away on the highway so you don't go deaf.

I appreciate the responses. However I actually love the way my car sounds now with my open K&N. However I want to know whether to remove the resonator at all. I heard the basic move of freeing up the air flow in that area is a good thing all around. However then I heard people say it's good, but it sounds like a-hole. Then I heard it doesn't help anything, don't do it. I want the facts. Where's Demon when you need him most. Is he out fighting ignorant villians again?

Acttually, ( i asked demon Before) if i remember correcty, the resonator is for sound only with very little restriction.

the main restiction is in the precats and the actaull piping diamater itself. So i feel you will only get a rasping tone. Now some people have had experiencd sligtly diffret leves of rasp..some tolerable and some not.

I honestly can;t tell you if you would like the sound, because its to personal prefrence, but i cna tell you that it will get lounder and theres a good chace you will get rasp.

I believe one of the Chicago guys removed his mufflers on his SVT and kept the stock resonator, sounds sweet too. Thats what I pretty much want to do, but worried how it will sound on my little 4 cylinder Zetec.
