I assume that you have a 1996+ model...
You will need to get the CEL code read in order to determine the problem. You can get it read at the $tealer, AutoZone, or a friend with an OBD-II reader.
Once you have the code, post it, along with any other symptoms, on the board and you will probably get a few responses. Also, be sure to include the year, make and model of your car (and any other info that might be pertinent).
