What I did was take it to a spray do it yourself wash.. spray everything down carefully (use your head on this one.. you wouldn't soak the filter or the coilpack) soaped down the mainfold.. then rinsed.. took the car out of the port.. dried everything off.. took some engine brite foaming degreasor to get all the caked stuff off.. a lot of scrubbing.. then for finishing touches you use silicone tire spray (I use meguiar's black magic) and spray everything down.. your engine will look brand new.
