I went to work (approx. 14 miles)... car started fine, was running fine... got about 2/3 the way there and noticed a considerable loss of power and VERY late shifting (though not rough), also an extreme increase in my intake air volume at the filter... sounded like a nuclear powered suck-o-lux, but it would warble a little like it was struggling to breathe.... My ATX tranny has had a come-and-go slow leak and I have been checking fluid level daily... was afraid I accidentally put in too much juice and damaged my transmission... called tranny shop and arranged to limp the car up there (15 miles to the shop)... about 2 miles into the trip to the tran. shop I had to climb a hill... car lost all power... couldn't start and had to be towed to nearest repair shop.... called the transmission shop to cancel... there are metallic clunking noises at just above idle... say 1200-2000RPM is easy to hear clunking from the drivers seat... sounded like general area of transmission.... under the hood it was harder to pinpoint, but seemed (SEEMED) to come from under the rear valve cover on passenger side, where the chain should be. The shop didn't have much time to check it our other than simple first impression diagnostics and the believe it may very well be a timing chain... I HOPE no damaged valves It's an old Mystique but it is just breaking 60k miles. Why, oh why??
