I'm reading that others in the past have had this. Of course a loud hum by definifion can sound like and be anything--sorry to be vague. This sound comes and goes regardless of a/c. I notice that when I increase the rpm it becomes slight to non-exsistant, really noticable at idle or slow driving (20 or 30 mph). This Contour is a V6 with almost 100,000 miles.

That is the hum!!!! It about disapears when the car is accelerating but comes on strong at idle ..wierd...it doesnt get any louder than what it is but it is almost like a buzzer in a way. I know it is from the intake because it is very plainly noticable when I lift the hood. I dont know what it is or if its hurting but my question is why. Reguardless of AC i know ..I have tried shutting off stuff and it still goes ..crazy

C.C.; Did you notice if you hold on to the intake or um you can also feel the vibration of this hum? It's a puzzle. A shop locally here felt I needed to clean the um/lm butterflies etc--and it needs it. Was hoping for the lazy man's way out--"just a sensor, or just something unpluged". By the way, my check engine light comes on. Auto Zone says replace the gas cap. Did that and it worked, but same code again later.

where did you get your filter and adaptor if it applies??? Mine just started doing this today after I put on the new filter and adaptor and also my car started acting uyp as well as previously posted. It has to be something directly related o the intake filter or adaptor

Everything on the car is factory original including the filter. When I change filter elements the sound goes away for awhile then returns as if something becomes loose. It's a PITA. My 99 se, no problem.

My car does the same. I have a KKM. If I pop the hood and squeeze the hose going into the MAF(?) (the one closest to the driver) it kills the noise. This is the same hose reffered in the throttle hang fix article. I may try to do the throttle hang fix and see if that kills the noise. Yea, probably some resonance in the IAC tubing. Try holding and squeezing/pinching the larger of the three hoses that hook up to the accordian hose. (The smaller 2 are PCV) You should feel the vibration most on this hose and pinching the hose is similar to installing the TH fix. If the sound is coming from somewhere else, use a large screwdriver as sort of mechanics stethescope, "listening" to the handle, and probing for sounds with the tip.

I have done my research on moosing ..I did not leave out this step as most people would have ...it explains my sound but it does not explain my problem ,... I could care less about the hum ..but my car keeps stalling now ..on my way to work , on my way home. Runs in low rpms. I have had no problem ever before ...If I put on the airbox ..It all stops and is fine ..it is just something directly related to the filter
and the maf
I know it is ..just dont know what to do about it
