contour1995 I don't believe the Zetec is a SVT engine. For being people that are supposed to know cars, mechanics same some of the dumbest stuff sometimes. I think the zetecs are more reliable than the duratecs. Good for me, bad for all the contours that can beat me, but atleast mine keeps running. :p

Use to love my Contour till Ford technicians went for a test drive and blew engine.. I now hate Ford but still love SVT contour.. I am offically done.. spent afternoon looking at Nissan Maxima and Lexus IS300.... I will be a troll before the end of the year never to own another Ford... Quality #1 refers to sales, NOT service which sucks terribly.. Granted I am very sure there are a "few" fine dealerships, just not in my neck of the woods... Only thing that will teach Ford, is the lack of repeat buyers such as myself... 5 Fords and NO more as I am done! Cheers, VG

i gotta say...26,2xx miles i've put on mine since purchase and i've loved almost every minute of it.... after i bought the car i found out that the drivers door window switch wont let up the rear left window and currently wont do anything for the passenger front window and i replaced the battery after about a month having the car i read before buying about most of the quirks built into the car...the 2 day fillups at the pump and the sticking parking brake...so i havent really had many surprises i did replace the waterpump thermostat and atx in feb but only spent a little over 800 outta pocket thanks to warranty i purchased with the car...cost 1500 and repair bill was over 4000 total now i need to get a leak somewhere around the powersteering pump fixed...it managed to coat my alternator in a nice coat of oil so now my alternators slowly dying...and i have a leaky valve cover gasket on the rear bank and i'd still like to get my 3.0 to have installed other than that brakes tires and struts...routine maintainence items for the most part.... after all is said and done i am VERY happy with my contour....i hate ford service practices tho

I have good day's and bad day's. Sometimes the car runs great and makes me happy. On other day's for some reason every problem will come out like poor idle, fuel smell, and rattles upon rattles everywhere and slugish performance ect.. I like the car and consider myself lucky not to have any severe issues yet like atx failing or blown engine. I'm still on my stock wp at 60k (knocks on wood) Seems like some people have worse reliability than others. I feel your pain. I have had mine in the dealer three times at different dealers for a fuel smell in the engine bay but the ford techs cant find anything meanwhile my car smells like a old gassy pinto. probably my injector o-rings failing since i have replace everything else. One thing that does make me happy to drive it is.....Its almost paid off!

No guesses as to chance of joyriding ... I've had some interesting problems with my car, including fuel pump, that stupid sulfur (rotten egg) smell, muffler, tie rods and brake rotors among other things. Too bad the car only has 38K miles (most problems happened around 28K). But I still love it, and will soon - hopefully, finally - be purchasing it from my parents!

About that fuel smell... I had that fuel smell for the longest time too, and you know what I found? There is this vent hose on the top of the gas tank that is for when you fill the tank it lets the vapors escape out the filler nozzle. Well that little 3/4 diameter vent hose running along the big filler hose had a split in it right where it hooks to the tank. When you get the fuel smell, can you go back by the pass side rear door, duck down and smell it there (as well as inside the cabin)? Just one thing to check... Anyways, another thing to check is the charcoal canister and it's hose connections. The reason you only smell it sometimes, is because the when the temp is on the rise, vapors want to escape the tank, and when temp is cooling down, air is sucked into the tank. Also, if you just filled the tank, there is more splash coming out of the tank, as opposed to when the tank is nearly empty. My little vent hose fix cost 5 bucks to repair (used a molded heater hose as an aternative hose that had correct dimensions)

I loved my little SVT all the way up until I traded it in... even after I had to have all of the following fixed.
Had the moosing prob - Fixed by dealer Numerous recalls - Fixed by dealer spider gear in tranny broke in half and went through the top of the tranny (found half of it in the driveway) - Also, fixed by dealer. Hydraulic Control Module went out - Fixed by dealer Control arm was bent - Fixed by dealer O2 Sensor was bad and Mass Air was dirty - Fixed by dealer but it took 2 dealers and 4 trips for them to figure it out. Water pump shelled out at 75k - Yup, you guessed it! Fixed by dealer. Had an airbag sensor go out - Fixed by dealer. Dealership didn't properly attach the shift cable when they replaced my transmission (with a new one thank god) so I pulled it loose while driving at 5:00 in the morning - Fixed by dealer.
I did love that little car, but it was time to trade it off. 84k miles in 2.5 years. All I can say is, thank god for extended warranties. Although I had to shell out my own money every time it went to the shop, regardless of the warranty, for some misc. component or something that wasn't covered... that was irritating.
I'd buy another one if I could afford it... but alas... I cannot. My Supercrew F-150 4x4 Lariat keeps my checkbook thoroughly depleted.
