Looking at upgrading my suspension. The car is driven daily and I noticed that stock SVT Contour suspensions be had pretty cheaply.

Thanks for any info!

yeah if you do a complete swap of struts and springs. the struts may be stiffer but early SE springs are supposed to be stiffest stock contour springs. and the front early SE springs will not fit on SVT struts.

The Contour SE is basically the daily driven car that gets all the miles put on it, but it's still fun to drive and I want to maximize the handling performance on the street without going with an all-out aftermarket suspension. The car used to sit pretty low, like all the other stock SE's that I see around. There was a broken spring on the front, so I had the front pair replaced, but now it sits high as hell! I'm almost thinking that it ended up getting V6, non-SE springs put on it. I want to get it back to where it should be. Or, even lower and stiffer would be nice. The stock shocks still seem to be in good shape. The damping doesn't seemed to have changed at all (I would have noticed.....). If the '95 SE springs were, indeed, stiffer than the SVT springs, I'd almost rather just use those again. What is the height difference between those springs? Is there a better route to go? I see you have Rousch springs. Besides, if I'd have to change the stuts to SVT in order to use the SVT springs, it might not be worth it for me. Maybe I'll just try to get some SE springs again. But, at the same time, improved damping is important to me, too. Wow, sorry that I'm making this so long. I'm just trying to understand what's out there and know what my options are.

Thanks for your help!

Steve

I would stick with the early SE suspension. Just freshen up the struts. I went to a SVT set-up, on my 96 SE, when my struts went bad. I think the early (95-97) front springs were, besides having a 1/2" lower ride height,a better manufactured spring/strut set. I feel the main reason a SVT handles better has to do with the lower profile tires it came with.
