hed likely blow something in his engine...100 octane will burn HOT . i didnt even like how my zetec ran (near the red in traffic in the summer) on 93-94 octane (before i put in my fluidyne radiator...now all is well so far) cant imagine what it would have done on 100 . make sure you have an upgraded cooling system.

When did octane level start heating up cylinder temps?

Let me help you out with Octane rating.

I'd think higher octaine fuel would allow him to run at higher boost levels since it is more ressistant to random detonation.

Maybe Tom will be able to be the first 12 sec. Contour!

sorry, my dad told me once a long time ago that higher octane= hotter temps.

You can run more timing with higher octane. Could heat it up a bit. Tearing the engine up would come from too little octane, resulting in detonation. I found that definition easy to read and thought I would share.

Higher octane definitely helps resist detonation but I can't see it burning any hotter. According to TH, your exhaust actually gets hotter when you retard the timing too.

Actually this is not entirely correct. Higher octane gas does not burn hotter. If anything, it burns slightly cooler because the octants that are added to increase the octane rating actually release less energy when burned compared to pure gasoline.

That said, using a higher octane gas will allow you to have a leaner mixture before detonation occurs. And having a leaner mixture will cause combustion temperatures to increase. This is probably what your dad meant.

LMAO.

Tom, are you planning on bringing her up to Nationals? I would love to check out your set up and see the work in person. Nice job! I hope you kick all those WRXs and other assorted cars off the road. Good luck with the M3 (I want to see video on that one! )

Congrats on all that hp!
