i as well have the same prolems, now im curious which part to buy as well???? Mine stalls quite a bt and has the "moosing" sound. Its starting to get really annoying. Which ford part is the revised one, and will that fit on a '98 SE 2.5?

Wow, I had no idea other Fords had this problem. I had this problem on my dad's 4.0 Explorer. It would start up, sputter and die unless you held the gas pedal to the floor. It was like driving an old carbeurated car out of tune. It just wouldn't find an idle. Thankfully the plunger in the IAC was just clogged, and cleaning it out fixed the problem, but it's still a PITA.

Here is my opinion on the matter, and take it with a grain of salt, because I don't believe it's true, but I believe the IAC on cars are becoming clogged, because of these high performance air filters you guys are mostly all running (K&N, etc). The extra air they are letting in means that the air is not getting filtered quite as well, even though K&N says 99% is filtered. Well guess what? What happens to that 1%? It goes into your MAF, and eventually clogs up your IAC.

I could be completely wrong, and it probably has more to do with the PCV, but I heard a theory from someone once that high performance air filters are not helping the clogged IAC situation. I have had no problem just cleaning them out on my Fords, and the Explorer has 100K miles on it. I don't see why the Duratec Contour would have a much different IAC design.

Definitely try cleaning the clogged one first. You won't believe how easy it is to fix these things. Took me 10 minutes to unclog it on the bull.

I don't think it is the extra air but the oil that is in the air. K&N filters have oil and when air passes through the filter, the air will definitely pick up some of the oil. It may only be in the ppm range and some of this oil will deposit in the intake of the engine. So yes, I believe the K&N do make the IAC problem worse.

I do not have a K&N filter and I still have had the IAC problem. I run 6.5 quarts of oil and I think this is why my IAC gets plugged up. Also running a higher oil level can mean oil carry over into the cats and that is also bad. I wonder if my cats will go out and with my luck they will go out after 80,000 miles.
