Remove the top bolt first. Then the IAC will have some play. It is a bit tricky but with one hand move the IAC so the other hand can get at the bottom bolt. Once you have removed the IAC and installed it several times it will become much easier.

1/4" drive ratchet and socket will get it off without any difficulty whatsoever.

On my 2000 the top nut and bottom bolt are 10mm. I also loosened and moved to the side the black plastic valve (?) next to the IAC to get more room for my hand.

I belive Lance meant the size of the socket drive, not the socket fastener size, you know his 1/4" and your 10mm comments.
Maybe I'm just upping my post count here..,

No, you caught my mistake in quoting the wrong post. I meant to quote a post before Lance's.

Responding to your post also increased my post count by one!

This whole IAC thing is kind of a mystery to me. If my old mustang had one then it never gave me any problems, anyway....

How often should this thing be cleaned? If the car seems to be running fine should just leave it alone or clean it anyway?

Anyone have any pictures? I could be wrong but doesn't it involve that hose that comes out of he side of the intake near the throttle body?

Comments welcome. Thanks in advance.

-Matt

Does this sound like the description for the IAC?

"Fuel system, Fuel induction, Fuel injection, Idle speed control, IDLE SPEED CONTROL, Contour, Mystique, 2.5L, From 5/3/99 "

This is from Fordpartsonline.com
They sell this part for $58.xx. If this is the right part, I may pick one up myself. I couldn't find idle air control nothin'! Thoughts?

That sounds like the part. One dealer told me there is only one part for the duratec whereas the dealer I bought the part from showed me the computer screen that listed multiple part numbers for IAC's, one specific to the SVT.

As for cleaning the IAC, I wouldn't touch it if it is not acting up. I would clean it though when it first shows signs of a problem rather then waiting until it gets worse, like I did.

It is strange that one dealer is telling you there is only one part number and another dealer saying there is a different IAC for the SVT. If you have time, have the dealer pull the non-SVT IAC and the SVT IAC and compare the two. I would think the IAC would be the same for all 2.5 Contours.

It changed at some point -- the connector to my 95 is quite different from the SVT's I've looked at.
