You will ALWAYS hear stories from people about 'so-n-so got hit' and 'blah got ran off the road' and the such. If you want a crotch rocket, start small and take the MSF courses where you'll learn how to react to those situations. A lot of the accidents you hear about are from people that aren't licensed to ride and don't wear the proper gear.
Believe me, they're a LOT of fun. There's nothing in the world that compares with carving up the twisties on two wheels.
Just go slow learning to ride street bikes...
