Here are the problems... I know my CAT needs to be replaced (car has just under 63K miles) My cars idle jumps when I come to a stop, from about 600 to 1100 RPMs... I have poor gas mileage...And the car seems to have lost about 10-20HP... I took the car to a local Ford dealer and them run a dia. test for me... The guy told me that the O2 sensor was sticking (they don't stick, they either work or they don't) I asked him which sensor it was, he replied my car only has 1 O2 Sensor, so I bought a Bosch O2 Sensor and replaced the one at the front of the engine (right by the access panel to the fogs) and reset the computer and went to work... On my way home that night the CEL came back on and it started acting up again... What else could be bad? I'm thinking it's the EGR valve and I may need to clean my TB...The car is a 1997 GL Sport, Zetec, MTX... Thanks in advance...

Lovely Winchester Ford.
Sounds about right with the EGR, cleaning the TB couldn't hurt either. Try it and see what happens. BTW a fried cat will make you lose 10 hp, trust me I know first hand.

Hey Ryan, do you know any good shops around here that could replace my CAT? For a decent price? Thanks, TJ

It could be the IAC valve. Your car has more that one O2 sensor. What code does the CEL return?

Although you didn't mention the code read I think you have replaced the wrong sensor. The more likely culprit, of the 2 that your engine has, is the one on the exhaust manifold.

I had a similar problem. My local Ford dealer diagnosed a dirty MAF sensor which they cleaned (fixed the poor fuel economy, not running rich) and they also cleaned the IAC to level off the idle. My idle still jumps when I shift from any gear into park or neutral, the Ford tech. said that was normal on these cars("they tend to spike")
Have look at your plugs, they will tell you how well your engine is running. Mine were black (rich) before the above fixes were done!
Good luck.

The Ford tech also suggested I get rid of the K&N!~ I did, and replaced it with K&N conical fiter!

Everything I had done to my Contour I had done at Waynes garage up on rte 522, almost 20 minutes out of town but they are old friends and have treated me reaallll good. For exhaust issue though, there is a guy down near the bowling Alley names Mike Bane that has a shop, but I can't find his phone number, ask someone where you work they might know. Tell him Mike Walls sent you (Good name to drop) he'll probably do it for next to nothing and he does good work

Jumpy idle could be a vacuum leak. Pull the fat line from the brake booster, put a bead of some silicone around it, put it back in, and let it dry overnight.

I've seen this on cars other than the 'Tour.

Your catalytic Converter is covered under 8/80....
So if your car has less miles on it than that Ford will pay for it.....
