A worn CV joint will make a clunking or grinding sound when you turn the wheel while moving or accelerating and the clunking sound will increase in frequency as your speed increases. If you are not moving you won't hear any sound from a worn CV joint unless it's real bad.
Other things to check are the wheel lug nuts to make sure they are properly torqued and not loose.
