I had a custom exhaust put onto my 98 Contour SE. I had a walker catylitic convertor put on for better flow because i have an air intake. Would my custom exhaust cause and 02 sensor to malfunction, because now my car has intermittant starting problems. The engine cranks but sometimes wont start. This custom exhaust is duel exhaust but its not true duel it just y pipes out. If you could tell me if any aftermarket stuff that you put on these contours would make and intermittant start problem. If anyone can HELP please give me some advice. Thanx

An O2 sensor problem will usually cause a CE light, but the exhaust mods you mention shouldn't effect your O2 sensors. The O2 sensors will not affect starting your engine, so I would suspect some other problem. (Ignition, fuel filter etc.) It sounds like you have a custom intake, so maybe there is a leak or something going on there?? What type of engine, mileage, and other mods do you have? Any other symptoms?
