if you are gonna paint it....paint it silver......then paint your grilles black to contrast instead ford's "special" gray.....

the front chrome oval cannot be painted. it has to be dipped in an acid first to take the chrome off.

i didn't put my chrome piece in acid. I just sanded it down a little bit and then painted it with spray paint that matched the color code of my car. Then i put a clear coat on it. It looks fine and the paint is staying on without a problem.

I painted the rear trunk chrome strip flat black. It looks awesome on my black SVT. I left the front chrome oval as is. IMO, painting the front oval gives the car a cheap aftermath look. But, this is a matter of taste!
Furthermore, in your case, the chrome on the silver paint is not so noticeable.

definitely a matter of taste. i think the stock chrome looks tacky. it stands out too much. my black oval now looks like its stock or should've been stock. look at the st200s and see if they have stock chrome ovals. ford gets eveything right overseas and not here.

Yeah, you need muriac acid.
Or you can sand it with 600 or a red 3M pad and prime it with self etching primer.
EDIT: As for what to do now, tear your Ford ovals apart and sand the blue paint off the back side. Then repaint them silver or black. Looks totally rad.

IMO the body coloured front oval does look like a a cheap aftermath addition. It is like the ugly bumper chrome strips in the pre 96 models which, instead of simply removing them, have been painted in the 96 models! And when you look at them you wonder why Ford bothered putting them...

captain, this is why were a diverse bunch. i respectively disagree and think the exact opposite. i had mine professionally painted and matches the respray the body shop did at the same time. w/ stazi's grills underneath, i think its gorgeous and exactly what the stock form should've been, just like what ford did do for the mondeo st200
