SVTCARBOY If all firms and or consumers were to follow your logic of making sure one another could eat, not maximizing profits, and not dealing sharply, then slowly we would shift our entire economy toward socialism, and probably autarky as well. Why is it unethical to haggle at best buy. It may not work because they have set prices, and the sales person may mot be authorized to adjust prices, but in no way is it unethical. Do you honestly think anyone at Best Buy cares about you or helping you not pay too much so that you can eat too. NOT AT ALL. If you are not making money in a business, you get out. Sure you may eat some losses, like the car dealer in this case who has too much invested in the car, but if you just let it sit, you will eat the entire thing. It is quite refreshing to see that there are still people out there who care, but business is a dog eat dog world. Some people win. Some people lose, but free trade and capitalism benefit the whole much more than everyone being nice.

Hell I paid $3500 for my 95 SE Fully loaded (Duratec, Leather, moonroof, Traction Control, MTX) a few months ago. No way I would pay 6900 for a 95 Zetec (UNLESS they had a turbo under the hood already )

Don't forget how flexible an asking price is. My car was on the lot for 15,999. I walked away with it sub $14 after taxes tags and a warranty! I think the car itself ended up being very high in the 12's.

I think the car itself ended up being very high in the 12's.Maybe I should go back and in my best Used Car Saleman voice pitch the following, "What's it gonna take for you to sell me a car today." TB

One more thing on this car.
It has been there a while, as far as I can tell. The newly installed tires ha 20# of air in the front.
I stopped by before the AutoX yesterday since it was only a couple miles from the venue. I had my tire pressure gauge in my pocket and wanted to see if the tires were in a hole, or were really low.
They were really low.

tony, car lots kill batteries and let air out of tires automatically!!! we replace about 3 batteries a week and are constantly adding air to our tires. i do not know where the air goes but it does. if the cars just sit, air leaves and batteries die. if it is a cheap battery, they usually do not come back to a full charge. replacement time if the contour has been there 60 to 90 days, he is about to take it to auction. now is the time to make your 3000 dollar offer or better yet, offer 2700. he just may take it. i would

I always assumed that dealers made a pretty good profit off of used car sales, considering the general public doesn't really research the value of many of the cars (case in point-a friend of mine recently bought a '99 Suburban for a thousand less than '01 with no extras that I could see). I paid $9000 for my '95 GL four years ago. It had been leased by an older couple and had 22K. I think I got a pretty good deal and so did the dealer judging by the interest I've paid. LOL
'95 GL White K&N *New Wire Harness* ;P Pioneer front spkrs, Infinity rear, and Kenwood 320w amp installed YAY!
