I don't have my Mystique anymore, but wanted to comment on this because I am a Ford tech. I do still hang out with the Chicago people once in a while too.

What you are seeing in Brad's photos is a re-designed repair kit that was meant to prevent any future repairs. It is supposed to be a permanent fix for this problem. There are clips installed in the defroster vent area under the black plastic piece, and the larger black part is actually metal. Ford will not replace dashes anymore unless the dealer determines that the dash is warped severely enough. The dealer would need to call Ford to request a new dash, and Ford may have an inspector come out and look at it. It is much more difficult to get a new dash now than it was a month or two ago. This change went into effect as of the beginning of June.

As for any damage done when installing this kit, that is the dealer's fault and should be repaired by the tech that did it for no charge. I recently installed that kit on a '99 and had no trouble with any parts breaking during removal. Some techs are more careful with trim than others.

Well I'll tell you this Justin, If thats the repair procedure now me and Ford would have a BIG PROBLEM! First place I didnt buy a car with that God awful looking setup on the dash, and I would not accept some jerry rigged BS like that! If they cannot make me whole again then they[dealership or Ford] could have the car back and the payment book as well! I have sicked crediters on buisness's that I have bought products from and had trouble with in the past. Crediters do not like to lend money on products when the manufacturer does not stand behind them. It's amazing how much power bankers have, they always seem to get there way! wink Morrel to the story is theres more than one way to skin a cat! So dont give up!

Hay cool roadrunner would like to see the difference. The dealership where I got the car and had the kit installed, didn't seem like they wanted to install the kit in the first place. So I really think that being gentle not to break clips was not high pri on their minds. I had to keep bugging them till they finaly fixed it. Also on the other note I think my crediter would stand behind the dealer cause it is Ford Motor Credit. Either way I just want the broke stuff fixed. But I still think it looks hideous and the big rivits are awfull.

Thats 1 reason I NEVER finance a car with the car co. I bet if I was to do some digging around I could find out which bank is backing Fords financing. You dont really believe Ford is using there own money do you? ROTFL!!!! Those repair kits will never fix that dash. The reason is the vinyl outer skin on it is SHRINKING[alot more than usual] All they are doing is trying to clamp it down to the point it doesnt come loose. Then a few years later when it shrinks more its going to rip loose from all the clamped areas and boy is that going to be NASTY. Its all because they were made from a bad vinyl mixture and they know it! By the way did I mention how nice my NEW dash is? and how pliable and supple the vinyl is on it? NOT rock hard like the incredebale shrinking dash was. laugh

All right REDSVT rub it in. But you know I was thinking the same thing. Find out who does the actual financing for them, and send them some photos. I bet that would bend them out of shape.

Greetings all... dropped my skate off this morning at 7:30 for the dash recall after I was told that my new dash was in. My Service advisor called at 2:30 to let me know that even though my replacement dash is in they have to try the repair kit first. To make it even better they do not have the kit in stock so I my replacement dish languishes on a shelf in the parts department while I wait for the " repair kit" to make an appearance.
They have offered to provide me with a loaner while they correct mine once the kit arrives. I have been very patient but if the "fix" has the sort of backyard DIY look that I have seen on others posted here I will not hesitate to call Ford...again.
