Hey guys need some opinions... I'm thinking of getting a performance chip, a superchip or a diablo one... what could be best or has better results??? The other one could be a nice No2 system... but here's the big one... I think or read about that if I'm going to put a mod after getting the chip it should be replaced by another one that could be recognized by the computer or has more power?? mmm little confused whats up with this? can anybody help me??? http://members.cardomain.com/jpgarcia " target="_blank">' 97 Contour GL Champagne

Why don't you try something that's cheap, like a K&N or an Optimized Throttle Body??

Its best to buy a chip after all mods are done (intake, exhaust, etc.). That way you can get one burned to work with all the stuff you have done to the motor.

Buy a chip that you can tune..That way you can just change your operating parameters after each mod. Plus with lets say a superchip, if you wanted to do a dyno and tune..you wouldn't be able to. But if you have a tunable chip you'll be able to change things during your dyno. You could buy a non tunable chip and put it in, just to find out that your running rich. Then you have to call the company and send it back.. and I believe they would charge you for that. Just my opinion, but I would do permanent upgrades first.(headers, intake,)

A little info that might help you in the long run. I just got off the phone with SPMotorsports. I'm doing a bunch of upgrades to my svt, one of which was going to be a superchip. At $225 I figured it was a decent price for the amount of hp gain BUT the guy tells me that if you install MSDS headers (which I have on order already) Superchip charges and additional $250 for custom programming. I'd love to chip it but I don't think its worth almost $500 so screw it. Just so you know if you do have or are planning on getting MSDS headers the chip is gonna cost ya.

I got my mods from them too. U miss understood him. If you get the chip tell them what mods your getting first. If you do mods after the chip is burned, then they will charge you to reburn. I do all my shopping thur them and I talked to them about the same thing.

I didn't misunderstand him because I asked him specifically "So you're saying its gonna cost me a total of 475 bucks?" and he said yes. This was when I was about to order the chip and he was asking me what mods I had. From what he told me Superchip just started charging this much so maybe it wasn't that way the last time you talked to them but apparently it is now and it only applies if you have the MSDS headers. Sounds retarded to me but SPMotor guys are saying that Superchip has to "custom" write a program because of the headers.
He did say you could order the chip and just tell them all the mods you have except for the MSDS headers and avoid that 250 "custom programming" charge but it may not run right (too lean) and if you decide to send the chip back on the 30 day return deal you don't get your $250 programming fee back.
