If all firms and or consumers were to follow your logic of making sure one another could eat, not maximizing profits, and not dealing sharply, then slowly we would shift our entire economy toward socialism, and probably autarky as well. Why is it unethical to haggle at best buy. It may not work because they have set prices, and the sales person may mot be authorized to adjust prices, but in no way is it unethical. Do you honestly think anyone at Best Buy cares about you or helping you not pay too much so that you can eat too. NOT AT ALL. If you are not making money in a business, you get out. Sure you may eat some losses, like the car dealer in this case who has too much invested in the car, but if you just let it sit, you will eat the entire thing. It is quite refreshing to see that there are still people out there who care, but business is a dog eat dog world. Some people win. Some people lose, but free trade and capitalism benefit the whole much more than everyone being nice.
