I have a friend who's a CHP officer. He was telling me, not long ago, about an incident he was involved in some time well before I knew him.
He was stopped by the side of the road, sitting there in his Crown Vic, when his radar picked up something coming at him from behind at around 90 MPH.
The driver of the Camaro/Firebird that slammed into him was killed instantly.
I don't know that I ever got any account of how badly my friend was injured in this mishap, but by the time I came to know him, he was certainly recovered from any such injuries, and back at work with the CHP. Obviously, he came out better than the driver of the other car; this is probably due, in large part, to how sturdy the Crown Vic is.
