This actually had been pondered for things like taxi cab duty but it was decided that the very heavy 7.3 PSD was too heavy.
Well, they have the new 6L out now
I would imagine over time the extra cost would pay for itself in gas mileage, maintainence and repairs.
Ford had been toying with smaller V6 versions for the F150 and Expedition and Explorer SUV's but they've pretty much scrapped the project for now.
The older PSD can become a maintenance nightmare if the maintenace schedules aren't STRICTLY adhered to. The new 6.0 hasn't been throwing rods here and there. Still has a few bugs but is improving.
