You see the problem is you come at us with an attitude. You're comments were so inflamitory that people are put on the defensive. You see this is a Contour Enthusiast Group, we are Enthusiasts about the car and the company. We may not like everything that comes out of Ford, infact I downright hate a lot of it. But when you put the entire company down like, you're gonna get some people angry. Also the old Chevy CC's had a similar prolbem. They might have fixed the problem in the new Impala. And yes I think Ford should resolve this issue, but I don't want them to fail because of this one thing.

First of all, the problem with the Crown Vics has been addressed with free mod kits shipped to every police dept in the nation. The '03 Crown Vics have had the problem solved with redesigns.

You may remember that years ago, there was a big hoopla about Pinto's gas tanks exploding. What the news media didn't tell you was that the major incident involved a Pinto stopped on the side of the road, with a mechanical problem. A drunk driver, in a Lincoln, driving 70 MPH, hit the Pinto from the rear. The occupants of the Pinto couldn't have survived, whether or not the gas tank exploded...geez people, a 5,000 pound Lincoln driving into the rear end of a 2,000# Pinto at 70 MPH, who is gonnna get hurt, whether the gas tank explodes or not?

Finally, on the Explorer issue, the National Transportation Safety Board examined the Explorer roll over issue, and concluded that the Explorer is just as stable as any other SUV. There is NO inherant problem with the Explorer. I HAVE one, I fully trust it!

The news media just loves to drag Ford into the mud, when the truth is known, Ford vehicles are just as safe or SAFER than the competitors. Sorry if I sound opinionated, but I've been a Ford man for years, and these scare stories aren't gonna steer me to GM products!

The moderators here have been quite lenient in whipping out the ban stick, a good quality in my opinion that gives people a chance to apologize for their past actions. Weren't you banned once before, on the old forums, hence you were forced to reregister when the new forums were created? You made amends then and all was cool until recently when you have decided to stir things up again.

Not to take sides here, but there is, I think, an issue with older designs (like the Crown Vic and the Mustang) and some newer SUV's that have the fuel tank right in front of the rear bumper. Absent a fuel bladder (as someone suggested), it is vulnerable, unlike many newer designs (like the Contour) that have the tank forward, basically under the back seat (so if the accident reaches the tank it will have likely already dispatched the occupants). That said, there is always the original Beetle where if you had a really good head-on crash the front-mounted tank would land in your lap and explode....

These are some WEAK arguments, how about some of the dead people do to explorers?

Jared, put your precious Mitsubishi on a lift and find the location of the gas tank, now tell me that if it were parked stationary and hit by a 10,000lb truck (the very minimum that the one mentioned above weighs) going highway speeds (figure at least 55mph) that a fuel leak and a fire isn't possible, riiight.

Maybe they should put the powerstroke in crown vics, crazy diesel torque, and diesel fuel doesn't explode like gas.

You asked for it, you got it. Buh bye.

Any questions, e-mail me at jvt1173 @ yahoo dot com

The point of this post was to obviously piss people off w/out making as much as a valid argument. Sorry, not here, not now. The 'dead people in Explorers' was very uncalled for.
