Ultimately, this is the solution. I know MA SP turn their lights and keep them on whenever they pull over to the shoulder and they are very visible.

Saying that if you hit any car at 55+ is gonna = a fire is true. But the Pinto had the same sort of prolbem. There is very little protection around the gas tank. The tank is located behind the rear axel. The cops usually have a box that holds the tape machine. This is one thing that cuts the tank open in an accident. I think they should put better sheilding around the tank to lessen the chances of a fire. This is not an issue with regular Crown Vic's but it is with the PI's. They put mods on the Crown Vics to make them PI's, why not just add more protection to the gas tank as part of the package?

Thought that story was intrseting till I looked at the DATE October 2000. Second there is HORRIBLE stuff coming out about Ford every week. This story was the other day, I don't here alot of stories about Impalias doing it. These are some WEAK arguments, how about some of the dead people do to explorers?

NOT so RARE collisions. Several throughout the state of Texas have died and in Dallas there have been a couple. Not so rare.

Once in a great while, we all come accross a thread that is just ridiculous... There are no words to describe this one...

English, try writing in the typical language of most of this board's participants.

Here's a take on rear end collisions. In 1982 I fell asleep at the wheel of a 1978 pinto. At around 45 MPH (last look before sleeping) I hit 2 parked cars, both 4 door, a 1980 chevy citation which in turn hit the 1975 chevy nova right in front of it, which in turn smashed THRU a brick wall. All three cars were leaking fuel, (the pinto a little, the others looked like gallons) and the doors wouldn't open on ANY of the cars. My guess is because they had full tanks there weren't enough fumes to cause an explosion. Sometimes you just have an impact that no motor vehicle could survive. All three were totalled.

When are these sue-happy douchebag state attorney generals going to realize that if a stationary object, namely a gasoline filled automobile is struck by an object in motion to the tune of 55mph plus, namely another vehicle, there's most likely going to be an explosion, and yes anyone in the car is probably going to die? It's simple physics. I'd like to see these conditions replicated with other types of vehicles. I'll bet the same thing is going to happen. It's not Ford's fault if someone behind the wheel of a car is negligent enough to not notice a car's roof ablaze with strobe lights, and not think to stay clear of it. So to say "I hope Ford goes DOWN" is a very ignorant, poorly thought out statement.
