This sound occurs, from somewhere on top, on the "drivers side" of the engine. It occurs after the car has warmed up. It sounds like an exhaust leak, lifter noise, or possibly an injector(I hope). It's very loud once the engine is warmed, even with the engine hood closed. I searched this out, with many different ideas, and no explanations. My car is an SVT with 102K miles on the original motor. A close friend of mine says be careful of a cam going flat, is this also possible?

That doesn't look applicable. The V6 cars have the cats welded to the manifolds, and the y-pipe is a "ball joint" type of affair when connected to the exhaust manifolds/catalytic converters. I guess I should be more specific. I only hear it when I'm at idle. Of course, I don't here it when I'm moving. It's just very noticeable while sitting at idle.

I've posted this a few times, but.. Mine was doing the same (except on the passenger side). Now it's at Haines Motorsports getting the engine rebuilt. It started as a tick, and within two weeks it was a full blown knock. '00 SVT with 51k or so. Bad crank bearing.. mad

I kind of hope it is terminal, but also hope it's not. The car has been doing this for over two years now, but it seems more pronounced. Only when warm, and I used an automotive stethoscope, and I couldn't isolate the sound. The car still runs fine, maybe it's an injector.....if it's worse, at least I got 102K out of the original motor!

have you checked your oil level?

My old 1990 Nissan Stanza has a worn exaust valve lifter and gives off noise at warm when oil level is half way between the "low" and "full" marks or lower. Hydraulic valve lifters relies on engine oil pressure to make up the wear and maintain zero valve clearance.

i have a ticking around the cats too...it only makes the noise through the exhaust and it makes everything rattle....think thats the cats or the gasket problem?

I've been having this sound for over two years now. If it is, I hope the engine seizes after this summer.....I can get my 3.0 then.

I got that "tick tick" sound from mine if any of you guys have any ideas it would help. It started about about amonth ago when we did a 130+ run, later that day everything was great. Now started up again it would only do it when enging was hot, or pushed to 5000+ rpm's. And if it is that main berring like GVSU SVT was talking about how much is that going to cost? This car is a love hate relationship. frown
