I had the same problem a few years ago. I checked the battery and it was also red. Dealer could not find anything wrong. Next day, battery was green. I did not run accessories or put a heavy load on the battery. I have a 97 Contour, 147K miles, original battery and alternator. I probably will be buying a new battery in a few months though. I think it's lived a very full life.
