'99 2.0L Contour with 40k miles. If when the car is accelerating in 1st gear and I suddenly take my foot off the gas (as would be the case when going a short distance between stops) the tansmission will noticably "bang, slam, etc" into 2nd. The car has done this since I bought it used at 32K. Most of the time I can avoid this by acelerating more slowly or by letting the car go into second before taking my foot off the gas. A drain and refill (2x) of the ATF did not make a difference. I also noticed this same behavior in another '99 2.0L Countour I test drove before buying this one.

Is the CD4E just not a smooth shifter or should I be worried about this? Thanks!
